Man being questioned turns violent in police station

A police inspector and a constable were injured when a man who was being questioned on suspicion at the Singanallur Police Station in the city in connection with a crime case, turned violent, attacked the uniformed personnel and attempted to commit suicide.

According to police sources, Samy alias Vellaisamy alias Ramadas (32) of Othangarai began shouting at the police personnel and threatened to kill them for ‘trying to send him to jail’.

He broke the glass on the table at the police station, picked up one of the broken glass pieces and attempted to stab police personnel present there.

His attack left two persons, Inspector Elangovan and Constable Bheemaraj, with cut injuries on the wrist.

Soon after, the accused tried to take his own life by stabbing himself in the chest with the piece of broken glass.

Police have registered a case under Section 353 (Preventing a Government servant from discharging duty), Section 307 (attempt to murder), and 309 (attempting to commit suicide).

The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
